Reaching the World

Outreach. Our November Partners highlights some of the people, places, and projects that prioritize outreach. Hear from both Judy Kiess as she wraps up her responsibilities as Outreach Director and our new Director, Deaconess Melissa Harrington.

My heart has always been to try to find ways in which our family known as HC could go into the community and personally interact with people like we did at Just Neighbors or a few years ago when we had the carnival in the Francis Slocum neighborhood or when we did clean-up in the FS neighborhood. Not just inviting others to come to us, but our people going to them. This brings me to the second part of my answer. My dream is that a vacant space in the North Anthony Shopping Center be used as an avenue for outreach. I’m not sure what that would look like, but I think it could be an extension of our outreach ministry.

In working with Judy since August, I see two big strengths: people and resources.

People: It’s very clear to me that the members of Holy Cross have a lot of passion. This passion drives them to want to do big things! I’ve had many conversations over the past few months with people who really want to make a significant difference in our community.

Resources: This is a three-fold strength encompassing our time, our treasures, and our talents. Over the summer, and now into fall, I have seen the outpouring of generosity through donations of school supplies, meals for Just Neighbors, candy for Trunk or Treat, people volunteering their time and decorating trunks, donating food for the food bank…the list goes on. I see a congregation full of cheerful givers!
