Why We Worship
Worship is our active response to God’s revelation of Himself whereby we are redeemed through the shed blood of Jesus Christ on the cross, and through which our hearts and minds are transformed by the power of the Holy Spirit working in us. Transformed!!! Wow! What an awesome experience.
So as we gather together, God is offering us gifts! The means of grace. His Word, His Body, His Blood. For us! Powerful! And we surrender ourselves to God and seek to glorify Him through our “praise and proclamation” of who He is by examining His mighty works, both of old, and, as the living God here, today.
At Holy Cross we are blessed to be large enough to offer a variety of worship styles to help your faith walk in your best heart language. So what does God say about what is essential in worship?
In John 4:24, Jesus speaks with the Samaritan woman and says “…a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks. God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in spirit and in truth.” And He has given us instruction in His Holy Scriptures in Ephesians 5:19 and Colossians 3:16.
The key to transformative worship is to remember that it is about God: Who He is and What He has done for us. So if we come to offer our praise to God and to proclaim Him for what He has done for our eternal salvation, hopefully we can look past our earthly preferences and rejoice in worshipping together with our brothers and sisters in Christ.
