Last year, 4 gently used timpani (kettle drums) were donated to Holy Cross Music Department from a private individual and the Shriners Club. This is a value of well over $10,000.
Restoration work occurred this summer on our beautiful harpsichord making it playable again. The harpsichord is the predecessor to the piano and only plays at one volume level as the strings are plucked, much like a guitar. On a piano (originally called the pianoforte, because it could play both soft (piano) and loud (forte)), the strings are hit with felted hammers resulting in a very different sound. You will enjoy hearing some special music on the harpsichord this fall.
As part of the Set Apart to Serve campaign to encourage church workers, Dr. Cotton was interviewed for her role as Director of Music.
One study compared the effects of choir singing with simply listening to music. Those who sang showed higher levels of immunoglobulin A, an antibody that lowers the risk of cancer. And, the Bible has over 400 references to singing and more than 50 direct commands. Sanctuary Choir practice begins Thursday, Sept. 5 @ 7:30 pm in the Music Room and we seriously need you for our choir to keep singing. Sanctuary Choir, Treble Choir and Men's Chorus all require more voices and all would love for you to come and sing whenever you are able!
